Too many people taking too many showers is one reason. Many of us here
are old enough to remember when we had to have stand-up washes in tin
bathtubs using just a few inches of water, typically boiled from a
kettle. For the vast majority of people, this weekly ritual was the
extent of their personal hygiene regime. IIRC, I don\'t think the
French even bothered at all. Today however, the population has
exploded and everyone wants to take a shower every day and sometimes
twice a day. Even those folks in prison expect that much! And who
wants to use a hosepipe to wash the driveway and car with a pressure
washer in the garage? It\'s easy to see how the massive increase in
demand and consumption has brought about water shortages in the West.
It\'s nothing to do with \"climate change\" and all that BS. The last

Only in comic opera. And your really do need to learn the difference between people who see socialism as a sensible political philosophy when embedded in a multiparty political system, and communists who espouse the leading role of one particular political party in a monolithic and necessarily authoritarian political system.

You - of course - think what Rupert Murdoch and Vladimir Putin want you to think, and don\'t seem to notice the contradictions involved in having your strings pulled by two different puppet masters.

Sadly, Cursitor Doom and John Larkin aren\'t. They spread silly ideas with the kind of conviction that might suggest to the equally qullible that they are valid and respectable.

Here Cursitor Doom is suggesting that I\'m a Communist, which is almost as silly as Jim Thompson\'s claim to have reported me to the FBI for dangerously anti-American activities. Happily Jim died before he could indulgence in genuinely anti-American activities, like voting for Donald Trump.

Happily John Larkin doesn\'t vote, so he didn\'t either.

Cursitor Doom thinks he knows that I follow the Communist ideology. He couldn\'t be more wrong.

He\'s never noticed that I regularly mention that Karl Marx was thrown out of the International Socialist movement in 1871, on the entirely correct basis that his silly ideas about the \"leading role\" of what became the Communist Party would lead to tyranny, as indeed it did., some fifty year later.

“If you took the most ardent revolutionary, vested him in absolute power, within a year he would be worse than the Tsar himself.”

is a Mikhail Bakunin quote from the time.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Bakunin

is a much more interesting figure than Karl Marx. \" Bakunin and the anarchist faction argued for the replacement of the state by federations of self-governing workplaces and communes. \" which is a rather different ideology. I have my doubts about how practical it is, but it lives on in the cooperative movement, which hasn\'t killed anybody at all.

Cursitor Doom\'s commitment to consensus seems to be limited to agreeing with the most demented right wing lunatics whose propaganda he can latch onto.

John Larkin expects fullsone flattery. He\'s disappointed when he doesn\'t get it, and accuses the people who disappoint him of being nasty.

The John Larkin fan club isn\'t large - I can\'t name a single member - but if John went to the trouble of setting up a user group for the admirers of John Larkin he could perhaps get the kind of responses he wants.

This does assume that Cursitor Doom has at least minimal natural intelligence, which isn\'t a realistic assumption.

What he has said is that Agent is doing something that he didn\'t expect it to do. That sounds more like a bug than a feature. If he doesn\'t understand the features that Agent offers him, he may be getting a result he didn\'t expect from a change that he misjudged.

Artificial intelligence does tend to rely on a very large libraries of examples to generate its rules

\"Agent\'s Usenet features include access to multiple news servers, import/export of NZB files, threaded discussions and a highly configurable user interface which has been criticized as difficult to use.\" It\'s more likely that Cursitor Doom has just screwed up.

I\'d rather something were done about overpopulation.

Me too. I\'ve got a little list. Of course you are on that list, along with a a and Flyguy.

That\'s always the solution for Communists like yourself though, isn\'t
it Bill? Just kill off anyone who\'s not onboard with your loony ideas.

Fortunately for all of us, Sloman is harmless.

He might be. But others who follow his ideology are far from harmless
and they have no interest in arriving at a way forward through
consensus.

Nastiness is not an ideology, it\'s just a reflex. It doesn\'t seem to
be working very well for him.

Ignore him.

It seems my newsreader has more sense than I do.

It would be difficult for it to have less.

I\'ve recently noticed it\'s marking Bill\'s posts as \'read\' so I don\'t tend to notice them as easily any more. Perhaps Agent have introduced an AI feature to automatically weed-out time wasters!

One that discouraged you from posting stuff to forums where you don\'t know what you are talking about?

AI works in mysterious ways. The neural networks involved are notoriously difficult to unravel.

On reflection I don\'t think I\'ll change it back again. :)

As if you knew how to.

I can still see you\'ve posted a message, Bill. It\'s just no longer
highlighted so not so easy to spot among other replies. I quite like
it the new way. If by some miracle you change your ways and start
posting useful info again, like you used to once upon a time, then
perhaps the effort required to look into the settings and change
things back will become worthwhile. It\'s a shame you\'ve become such an
unpleasant misantropist since you moved to Australia... I wonder if
that\'s got something to do with it.....?

That\'s too vague a claim to be testable, followed by a dismissal based
on something fitting the description \'nastiness\' not belonging in the category
\'ideology\', whatever those terms mean here.

Ignore him.

Is this an instance of the trendy and insidious cancel culture?
Or, is it simply arrogant dismissal?

I cannot easily distinguish between those two.

I\'ll ignore you too.

So, it\'s both; how trite.

Your comprehension was never up to much, and I suspect that the problem is that it\'s you who is going down hill. Comfort yourself any way you like. Nobody has ever taken your opinions seriously. And this isn\'t misanthropic - you don\'t reach the level that has earned the right to be regarded as human, any more than a a and Flyguy do.

John Larkin ignores everybody who isn\'t willing to flatter him. He isn\'t going to learn much that way, which is unfortunate.
